About The Artist
Harpist Jill Justice calls Oklahoma City home. A native of Lubbock,
Texas, she began studying harp upon entering Texas Tech
University. After graduation, Jill moved to Lawton, Oklahoma,
where she taught private harp lessons, taught general music K-12
in a private Christian school, and played harp with the Lawton
Philharmonic Orchestra. After moving to Oklahoma City, Jill played
10 years with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Enid-Phillips
Symphony Orchestra, and again with the Lawton Philharmonic.
The Lawton orchestra featured Jill in 1988 for the Debussy
Danses Sacree et Profane for harp and orchestra, and again in
1990 for the Mozart Concerto for Flute and Harp. The Enid group
featured her in 1994 on the Ravel Introduction and Allegro.
As an active free-lance player, Jill’s frequent appearances at
weddings, business and church banquets, church services, studio
recording sessions, state conventions, featured concerts, and at
area restaurants, have earned her the reputation of being one of
the busiest harpists in the state. Between 1999 and 2001, Jill
served as an adjunct instructor of harp for the University of Central
Oklahoma and Southern Nazarene University.
In 1987, 1991 and 1992, Jill played harp with the International
Christian Embassy orchestra for their Feast of Tabernacles
Celebration in Jerusalem, an international gathering of Christian
artists, singers, dancers and musicians in support of Israel. They
invited her to return for Sept. 1998, when she was a featured
soloist on the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto and on some of her
own compositions from her album, Sea of Glass. In September
1998, Jill began playing for the Oklahoma Baptist Symphony, the
instrumental arm of the Singing Churchmen.
All her musical life, Jill's primary goal has been to write, perform
and publish Christian music for the harp. In 2001, that goal led to
three opportunities for Jill to teach seminars on using the harp in
church music. The first was for a group of harpists in Arlington,
Texas. In April 2001 Jill was one of the faculty for Gail Barber and
Louise Trotter's annual "Harp Fiesta" seminar, held in Lubbock,
Texas. In 2002, Jill was honored to be one of the faculty for Lyon
and Healy Harp company's Liturgical Harp Music conference, a
national event held on the campus of Notre Dame University in
Indiana. As part of that conference, Jill taught four classes and
presented one of the featured evening concerts, a program of her
own compositions and arrangements.
Many of Jill's arrangements for harp are in print. Jill also started a
series of arrangements of contemporary Christian worship tunes
for student level harpists, called the Harp Celebration Series.
