About The Artists (from inside the CD cover)
After singing together for less than a year with their new director, an eager
group of twenty-eight unauditioned singers, fifth through tenth grade,
committed to a summer adventure of memorizing sixty-three hymn stanzas
set to sixteen inspirational melodies. At the mercy of summer vacation
schedules, we discovered only one week when everyone was available for
three days of consecutive rehearsals followed by two days of studio
recording. What an amazing first experience this recording project was for
us! How much we learned as we moved through the arduous hours of
singing and re-singing in the studio! Our deepest gratitude to Howard Baer,
composer of thousands of arrangements for children's voices, who shows
again the permanence of these wonderful hymns of worship, arranged
delightfully to encourage the biblical activity of families singing together. As
moms and dads, children, grandparents, friends and church families listen
to and sing these timeless hymns, we pray the great devotional and biblical
texts will sink deep within you as they did us!

In June 2000, our newly-formed, middle school Covenant Choir recorded
sixteen hymns arranged by Howard Baer, the gifted Canadian composer of
thousands of arrangements for children. Four years later, and with over two
thousand LIFT HIGH THE CROSS compact discs having found their way to
the homes of families in places around the world, we embarked on a
second recording project, trusting that our now good friend Howard Baer
would dress these familiar hymn tunes in new garb, creatively expressing
the fold flavor of each wonderful melody. And that he did! With unique
concepts and a broad range of instrumental colors, he offered the
opportunity for our unauditioned singers, including thirty-one middle
schoolers, to sing, to memorize and to record with great delight the deep
spiritual truths found in forty-two stanzas of these twelve fold hymns. It is our
desire that these wonderful hymns of worship would encourage the biblical
activity of families singing together. As moms, dads, children, grandparents,
friends and church families listen to and sing these timeless hymns, we
pray the great devotional and biblical texts will permeate your hearts and
minds as they have ours, to the praise of our great God. COME,
CHRISTIANS, JOIN TO SING!
